Expansion Draft League Group Hiring Again

Posted on: June 27, 2008 10:18 am

So for this simulated expansion team we are looking for a manager of the team who's job will be to set the starting lineup based on the players drafted, by myself , the GM and the scouting director.  They will also indicated when to make substitutions.  This could be a really fun post for those who know baseball strategy.  An added bonus is that the manager can choose who they want to be on their coaching staff from members of the message boards and delegate responsibility to those people.  I am also opening up two positions that are more for fun creativity than anything baseball realted, but are needed for the day to day survival of a team.  I will need an In-season Promotions Manager, and a Choreographer.  Basically the In-Season Promotions Manager get to come up with give-aways and special nights and whatnot.  It's a chance to be creative and have a little fun.  The Choreographer gets to choose the music that the team comes out to and the mascot and events that will occur during the game.  If any body is interested in any of these three posts, reply to this post by July 2nd.  If there are multiple posts for a position one will be chosen if nobody does, then it'll be first-come first serve after July 2nd.

Expansion Draft League Group Hiring Again

Have I landed on the right page to submit my resume for In-Season Promotions Manager? I think I'm your guy based on the number of minor league games I've attended. Let's face it, an awful lot of major league games will sell out whether you give the fans something or not, and they're just as happy to drop a couple hundred bucks on food, drinks, and trinkets as long as they have a chance to see A-Rod or the next guy in the history books.

At the minor league level, you need to work for your attendance. For the Cougars, I wouldn't necessarily suggest Hooters babes doing dance routines between innings or a dunk tank for the local school principal (although a dunk tank for team owner Senor Sporkage might be interesting if the team makes it to the post), but I'd recommend making it fun and affordable for families to attend at least some of the games. Perhaps discounted Family Pack pricing (to cover tickets, food and drinks at a set price) throughout the season would be the way to go. IMO, building a younger fan base now will be critical to sustaining the team after the novelty of baseball in Charlotte wears off.

A couple of other very general promotional campaigns I have in mind would be directed specifically at day games during the week -- notoriously hard to fill -- and taking the first steps to build a competitive rivalry with another team. I have to think these through a little further, but the fact that Spork drove from Minnehaha down to KC to catch the I-70 rumble tells me a lot. On the same weekend, I paid much more than I should have to see the Cubs sweep the White Sox. So I open up a map, and see Atlanta just sitting there down the road from Charlotte, and I'm thinking hmmmmm. I imagine I'd be paid large dollars to notice these things.

You've got the position.

Just apply for acceptance to the group Expansion Draft League.

We'll need a lineup and rotation set.  Use as much or as little detail as you would like.  I'll be making a simulation in a spreadsheet based on what you want to do.
